Fill-in-the-blanks allows members to explore psychological safety by thinking on how they respond to safe and unsafe environments. These activity tries to get real experiences instead of abstract responses.

Steps

  1. Introduce the activity as a way to understand how safety affects behaviour Hands two different set of color index cards to each.
  2. Share the first sentence: “When I feel unsafe, I … “. Ask participants to complete the sentence on index cards
  3. Share second sentence “When I feel safe, I …”
  4. Collect the answers to both sentences and shuffle/anonymize
  5. Share the responses and read out the sentence endings for sentence #1, then #2. Allow time each time for the sentences to sink in
  6. Ask how people would prefer to work. After the discussion, ask wether working agreements would work (see Retrospective Working Agreements)

Remote variation: instead of index cards (less anonymous), use two word clouds
