The Team Radar gauge how well the team is doing on a variety of (subjective) measures, such as engineering practices, team values, processes etc.. It allows to aggregate the feeling each member has on the factors regarding the retrospective topic.

Another goal of the radar is to foster discussion: for example, some people might see the factors in a different way and have different (stricter? looser?) definitions of the factors considered in the radar.

Duration: 15-20 minutes

Steps

  1. Introduce the activity: “This is a set of factors that are important to our work. Let’s assess how well we think we are doing, using a scale of 0 to 10 ( 0=not at all, 10=as much as possible)”
  2. Display a blank radar graph with labeled spokes. Ask each team member to place a dot or a mark on the chart, showing their rating for each factor.
  3. Discussion time:
    • Where do you see us in strong agreement on these?
    • Where do you see us diverging on these?
    • What other patterns do you observe?
    • What’s behind the ratings?
  4. Save the completed chart. Run this activity later, to check if there’s movement in this factor.
